It Pays To Plan Your Car Payment Budget Before Auto Shopping

Everyone so to speak wants to buy a new car. Yet the sad fact of life is that not every one can afford to purchase “new”. Sure new car is shiny and should drive trouble free for the first number of years assuring you of few if any mechanical repairs. Yet if you are in the financial position of having to buy “used” how on earth do you rule out the Riff Raff and not buy a lemon? Read on my friend and you will learn a few tricks here.

In life no one is right or wrong so to speak. It’s all a matter of perspective, personal needs and experiences – good and bad to the greatest degree and degrees. What those of the new car only buyer group fail to take into account and appreciate is that their own vehicle is “used’ the very second they drive out of the new car dealership sales lot. The rough estimate is that once the car is registered with its VIN number on the books (in these days the state or provincial government auto registration system) that virtually 30 % of the value of the car or truck (as a rough give or take guide) disappears into “thin air”.

Yet in these modern times it is as easy as pie to check out vehicles. EBay is integrated with auto reporting agencies. Your local dealers will often do the service and provide the search or searches at little or no charge for you as a proof source of the vehicle if you are seriously and honestly considering purchasing said vehicle or even vehicles. Just don’t be abusive of these fine people if they are honestly trying to help you out.

Just what can you expect in an online vehicle report? First of all to explain the information (data) on your car is provided via a cross reference to the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) which is essence a serial number assigned to that particular unit since new. Each and every owner or change of ownership is tracked via this data. Attached to those changes of ownership should be addresses, perhaps phone numbers and mileage at that point in time. Traffic accidents and worse will be recorded as well as part of the process. If the car was in a very substantial accident and “written off” as salvage – and somehow returned to roadworthy condition (or at least the part attached to the VIN) this will be part of the report as well. Just one note – take into account practicalities of life. A computer report is a wonderful tool. Yet it is possible that owner’s may have had misfortunes in the auto’s life and done repairs under the table so that they do not appear on the roster. It’s always a possibility. So be wary of this. Stranger things have happened. The reports are valuable, one stop shopping pieces of information – however still use your practical judgment and skills of perception. Remember the other person is there to sell you the car. Once the contract is signed and the transaction of cash payment occurs for the most part you are on your own.

It amazes those that are “old timers “in the auto trade just how much information now becomes readily available with a simple computer accessed vehicle report – and for a fairly small fee. As an auto buyer of a used vehicle you should have tool and tip at your fingers to find your perfect vehicle and haggle the best price for it. After all it is your signature on the dotted line, and you who will assume auto payments as well as maintenance and expensive repair costs. Hence avail yourself of all the benefits modern technology and information service technologies have to offer you when you are out on the prowl for a new vehicle.

Its A Dog’s World On The Used Automobile Lot

When you wish to own a car but run short on budget you can opt for used cars instead. They cost pretty much lower as compared to the brand new ones. However you cannot be too sure on their quality and efficiency. It pays to complete a thorough and complete inspection of the cars and its history. First and foremost when it comes time to buy a first vehicle or replace your current form of transportation don’t be rushed. There are plenty of fish in the ocean or in this case car, trucks and SUVs in your local geographic area just waiting to be sold. Take full time and attention to inspect the car’s built, engine and history. Here are some tips on how to conduct a proper inspection for your desired used car.

In the advent of modernization and perhaps just to be different, the various automotive manufacturing companies have emerged to trace vehicle history. This is through Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) which can provide you past information about the previous owners and the different damages or problems that you should be aware of. The very first company to offer this kind of service was Carfax (www.carfax.com) which started its operation in 1986. At present, the Carfax can access 450 different information sources that can be emailed instantly to customers. Since 1981 Carfax has information for almost every car on the road. In fact the US government accepted the VIN as a standard tracking code for vehicle history. You will have to pay $14.99 to Carfax if you wish to get one history report. However it would be cost effective if you avail of their unrestricted car history determination for only $19.99 that is effective for a month. More recently, vehicle reliability information was added to the features of Carfax. Consumer Guide (www.consumerguide.com) is another company that provides Consumer’s Guide repair information derived from the Experian database with around 1.7 billion reports.

History reports are also capable of tracing cheats like odometer rollback, title washing and curbstoning. Odometer is a device that measure the distance traveled by the car annually. Depending on the odometer reading a used car can have a lower or higher value. That is the reason why some sellers would tamper the reading to have a higher price value for their car. History reports reveal the name of the previous owner and its location. So a discrepancy in this can reveal title washing or curbstoning. This report will definitely warn the buyer on the true condition and value of a certain used car. And will make sure that buyers will not be cheated.

Visual inspection goes with history reports for you to really determine the overall condition of the used car. An expert mechanic can give a reliable report on the built and engine of the used car for $50. However if you will inspect several cars you will be spending a lot. To avoid this you have to learn some basic things in used car inspection. You have to know the things to inspect and their expected appearance.

The car history generated by these companies can very well determine cheats on increasing the price value of used cars like odometer rollback. An odometer report is a handy feature of vehicle history providers. Odometer in vehicles indicates the distance traveled by a vehicle. Normally a vehicle must travel only for a range of 12,000-15,000 miles annually. If there will be an excess mile traveled, this will correspond to a decrease in the transaction price of the used car. Another cheat that can be traced using car history reports is curbstorning and title washing. The cars with these conditions are usually offered in a less but doubtful price value. Refer to the above mentioned guidelines to avoid taking over the lemons owned by others.

Finding & The Inspection Of Collector Cars & Trucks

A car is considered to a valuable investment. It requires more money than regularly monthly purchases therefore owners must be careful in handing over the cash. Through inspection will justify, if not, adjust the cost of a vintage car purchase.

Patience gives you success and the best one available. Make sure to look at several available vehicles before you finally decide. So do your homework and study the market to help you make that purchase. Prior to the physical inspection of the vehicle, ensure that all documents are in place. These will include the title, registration, emissions test, and any other test or documentation that the government requires. Ask about the car’s history and past condition as well.

The exterior appearance is easier to assess on a bight sunny day. It would be easier to spot ripples, if there are any. An old car that has been in existence for decades will have some type of body work done. This is not a concern, what’s important is the quality of the work done. A good example of body work should be straight and without any ripples. Check the curves for any “fatness”. This happens to bodies with poorly applied fillers. Other giveaways or unsatisfactory body work includes paint overspray, dents or damage to the structure. Check under the hood and other parts which cannot be visible from the outside.

Some cars have automatic transmission, check this as well. Several causes are possible when a vehicle is slow to engage in the reverse gear. It may be that the filter needs replacing, more fluid might be needed, or even major work when it slips during full throttle. Have a mechanic inspect the vehicle to assess defects that might be expensive to repair. Be aware that many mechanics will give more than an expert’s opinion and might even write up additional work in the hopes that you return for the execution of the job. Avoid this by not committing to him and purchasing the car.

After the drive test, open the hood and examine the components underneath. Stains will indicate oil and water leaks in the past. The wiring should be neat and well-routed. A fairly new battery should not have corroded terminals. Pull the dipstick and check the oil level. Oil should not have a milky or grayish shade.

Austin Mini: Small Car of the 60′s with A Huge Distinction

A small car icon of the 60s turned to be the recipient of the European Car of the Century Award. Who would ever think that an undersized car such as the Austin Mini would create such a huge and distinguished mark in the car world? Austin Mini has defied the several counterparts by its revolutionary engine design, astounding packaging and extraordinary handling features. Known for its diminutive size and energizing design, this British-born car has been one of the inspirations of the several aspects beyond the automotive field.

The first Austin Mini was manufactured by the British Motor Corporation (BMC). The car’s design was conceptualized while thinking about ways to manage the 1956 Suez Crisis, where UK faced an oil shortage and forced them to introduce fuel rationing. During that period, the sales of large-bulky vehicles declined and the trend was shifted to the small fuel efficiency cars. BMC had perceived the demand the led them to produce small cars without delay. The Austin Mini was designed to be lightweight and although it is small, the huge portion of the floor space was utilized to have room for four adult passengers and luggage. The standard engine was only had 34 horsepower but the Mini was made compatible with the crowded and ever busy streets of Europe’s metro.

Originally, the car was sold under BMC’s Austin and Morris brands. The model branched out into several versions with the name Austin Mini at its side. Years passed and term Austin was dropped leaving name Mini as its known label. It becomes popular not only in Great Britain but also around the world.

The year 1961 marked the launch of the first Mini Cooper, which eventually become known and recognized in the racing sphere. From the standard 848cc engine with 34bhp it was enhanced into 997cc engine developing 55bhp and even equipped with front disc brakes, the first model to have one. This version of the Mini can still be found and use in UK as well as in other corners in the world today. Others are preserved and become collector’s items.

Unfortunately, every legacy has its end. New modern models were released diverting the attention from the Austin Mini. Eventually, the sales of the Mini collapsed and the production was finally stopped in 2000. But after a year, MINI, as its new brand label was resurrected with the help of BMW. Today, equipped with a modern style and up to date features, the MINI’s legacy continue to lives on.
